Treasury of Scripture
Bithron. Bithron or Bether is probably the same as {Betarus} which is placed in the Antonine Itinerary between Caesarea of Palestine and Diospolis of Lydda,
18 miles from the former, and
2 Samuel 2:22 And Abner said again to Asahel, Turn you aside from following me: why should I smite you to the ground?...
from the latter. The Jerusalem Itinerary mentions a place called {Bethar},
16 miles from Caesarea, and
2 Samuel 2:20 Then Abner looked behind him, and said, Are you Asahel? And he answered, I am.
from Diospolis, which is probably the same. The Talmudists say that it was four miles distant from the sea.
Songs 2:17 Until the day break, and the shadows flee away, turn, my beloved, and be you like a roe or a young hart on the mountains of Bether.
Bether
Mahanaim
2 Samuel 2:12 And Abner the son of Ner, and the servants of Ishbosheth the son of Saul, went out from Mahanaim to Gibeon.
